River Street Riverboat Company was established in Savannah, Georgia in 1991 under the guidance of its experienced captain, Jonathan H. Claughton. Since then, the company has matured into an important Savannah mainstay along historic River Street.
In 1991, Captain Claughton accepted a brave new challenge: bringing a dinner cruise tour to Savannah, Georgia. After doing a lot of research, he invested in the good ship River Queen, a 400 passenger vessel. In 1997 after six years of success, Captain Claughton added an additional riverboat, the 600 passenger Georgia Queen. Both boats feature two climate-controlled dining decks and an open-air third deck.
Decorated in traditional riverboat red, white and blue, these floating palaces continue to transport visitors back to a time when elegance and relaxation were expected from river travel. Offering a variety of cruises including the ever-popular sightseeing cruise, the dinner entertainment cruise, our special luncheon trips, Sunday brunch, Monday night gospel entertainment cruise, the beautiful sunset cruise and the moonlight entertainment cruise. River Street Riverboat Company has a tour for everyone!
When asked what makes his company successful, the Captain says, “If you provide good service, the public will flock to the waterfront and enjoy what you have to offer. I cannot help but think this is the winning formula whether you run a small ferry boat or a multi-state excursion operation.”
In winter 2007, the company welcomed the 800 passenger New Savannah River Queen to its fleet. She features three climate-controlled dining rooms, three bars, a snack shop, spacious dining areas for large groups and a covered open-air third deck. The third deck also features a VIP room that easily accommodates up to 30 people.
In the fall of 2016 we proudly welcomed our newest addition to the fleet – the 1,000 passenger New Georgia Queen! This beauty features an incredible 15,000-plus square feet of ballroom space, an exquisite three-story gourmet kitchen with 5-star dining and breathtaking views!
When asked about his future plans, Claughton says, “We will continue to be a center stage fixture on River Street. We have seen slow but steady growth through the years, and I know we will continue to expand.”
